No. Your photos and files are stored on the drive itself, not in an online account. You do not need to sign in to anything to reach them — connect your Picture Keeper to your phone, tablet, or computer and your files are right there.
Your backups are not tied to your account, and they are not locked behind a login. Whether you are signed in or signed out, what is on the drive is the same.
What the account is for
The account is the login for our website and for the Picture Keeper app. It is not where your photos are kept, and it is not what gives you access to the drive. Losing access to the account does not lose you anything you have already backed up.
Two features do use the account:
- KeepSafe keeps an extra copy of your files for you, separate from the drive. It is part of the mobile app and it is tied to your account, so KeepSafe does need you to be signed in.
- Manual backup is used when a drive cannot plug into your phone directly. Your files are placed in your account for a short while, and the computer app then signs in to the same account and saves them onto the drive. Both devices need to be signed in to the same account for this to finish.
Neither of these changes the answer for files that are already on the drive. The one exception is a manual backup you have not finished yet: until the computer app has moved those files onto the drive, they are still in your account.
If you cannot get into your old account
If you have forgotten your password, you can reset it on the Reset Password page of our website.
If the account was set up with an email address you no longer use, or you cannot reach it for any other reason, you can simply create a new account instead. This has no effect on the photos and files already on your drive — they stay exactly where they are. Creating a new account does not move, change, or remove anything on the drive.
Getting to your files
Connect the drive and open the Picture Keeper app to browse what is on it.
On a Mac or Windows computer you can also open the drive directly, without the app. Open File Explorer or Finder, select the drive, and you will find a folder named Backups holding everything you have backed up.
