The Picture Keeper app backs up the Photos library of the macOS user who’s signed in to the Mac. It can’t pick another user’s library, and adding that user’s Pictures folder to the search doesn’t work either, because the app skips Photos libraries when it searches folders. To back up another user’s photos, run a backup while signed in to the Mac as that user:
- Log out of your account, and sign in to the Mac as the other user.
- Connect your Picture Keeper to the Mac.
- Open the Picture Keeper app. If it’s the first time that user has opened it, sign in to your Picture Keeper account and follow the setup steps in App Setup for Mac. When the app asks for access to Photos, allow it. (You can also turn it on later in System Settings › Privacy & Security › Photos.)
- Click Search Options on the left, then Photos Library under Where to Search, and make sure Backup Photos Library is ticked. Tick Backup iCloud Photos too if their photos are in iCloud, then click Save Settings. (Adjust the Search Options has more on this screen.)
- Click Start Backup.
Their files go into the same computer’s folder on your Picture Keeper (Backups › the computer’s name), beside yours. Anything that’s already on the drive, such as photos you both have, is skipped as a duplicate.
