This guide will show you how to reformat your Picture Keeper using a USB-C model iPhone or iPad. Please see our How to Reformat Picture Keeper (Lightning) guide for help reformatting Picture Keeper using a Lightning model iPhone or iPad. A reformat will completely erase your Picture Keeper, along with the backup records in the app, and can be used to correct software issues that a normal reset was unable to resolve. First, connect your Picture Keeper to your iPhone or iPad, then follow the steps below:

Open the Files app
- Tap Browse at the bottom right until you see the Locations section
- Tap and hold PKBACKUP and then tap Erase when prompted
- Tap Erase two more times
- You should see PKBACKUP disappear briefly, and then reappear

Open the PK Connect app
**If you only plan to use your Picture Keeper with your iPhone, you can stop here -- you're ready to start your backup**
**If you plan to use your Picture Keeper with a computer at any point in the future, continue with these instructions to ensure the computer app is properly installed on the drive**
- Tap Settings at the bottom right
- Tap Advanced Options at the bottom
- Tap Reset Drive toward the bottom
- Tap Factory Reset
- Tap Continue on the prompt
- When asked to enter your name, instead type format1, and then tap Continue to proceed
