This guide will show you how to reformat your Picture Keeper from a Mac. We have an automated utility called Repair Tool which makes this process quick and easy. A reformat will completely erase your Picture Keeper, and can be used to correct software issues that a normal reset was unable to resolve. Follow the steps below for help reformatting your Picture Keeper:
- Click this link to download the Repair Tool.
- Find the "RepairTool-Mac" file in your Downloads folder using Finder, and double click to open the Repair Tool:
- Double click the RepairTool icon:
-
If you see a prompt asking if you are "sure you want to open it," click Open:
-
Click Find Drive:
- If you don't see this prompt asking for "Full Disk Access," skip to step 8, otherwise click Open System Settings:
-
Find "RepairTool" in the list, click the toggle to the right to allow full disk access, click Quit & Reopen, wait for Repair Tool to open again, and then click Find Drive once more:
-
Click the gear icon in the top left corner, and then click Reformat Drive (Support Only):
-
Click Start Repair:
-
If you see this prompt asking for access to "files on a removable volume," click Allow or OK:
-
Make sure exFAT is the option selected, and then click OK at the bottom:
-
The Repair Tool will let you know when the reformat is complete. Keep in mind that reformatting will erase any files currently stored on your Picture Keeper.
- Before your next backup, clear the app's backup records. Otherwise the app skips every file it has already backed up, and the reformatted drive stays nearly empty. For a computer backup, click the gear icon in the app and choose Reset Picture Keeper (see the How to Reset Picture Keeper guide), or check Clone your Picture Keeper in Search Options for that one backup. For a phone or tablet backup, open the app on your phone or tablet and tap Settings > Advanced Options > Data Reset Options > Erase All Backup Records.
