A lack of available storage on your iPhone can often lead to other issues, including your Picture Keeper being unable to complete a backup. Your photos could be stored in iCloud, and in this case, the Picture Keeper Connect app will need to temporarily download these files to your phone's internal storage before being able to back them up. Once the photos or videos are backed up to Picture Keeper, these temporary files will be cleared from your phone's local storage while remaining in your iCloud account. There are several ways in which you can free up space on your iPhone. Below, we'll go over our best recommendations to help with this.
REBOOT YOUR IPHONE
This is a good first step to try, and also a good last step to try after completing the other recommendations below. Be sure to wait at least 10-15 minutes after restarting before launching the Picture Keeper Connect app.
APPLE'S STORAGE RECOMMENDATIONS
Apple will typically display recommendations for freeing up storage in Settings:
- Open the Settings app
- Tap General
- Tap iPhone Storage
- Check RECOMMENDATIONS just below the storage bar for Apple's recommendations for freeing up iPhone storage - you may see options like "Review Large Attachments" or "Offload Unused Apps" here
OFFLOAD UNUSED APPS
Offloading unused apps will uninstall the app itself from your iPhone, without removing any of your personal data contained within it:
- Open the Settings app
- Tap General
- Tap iPhone Storage
- Next, do either (or both) of the following:
- Tap Enable next to Offload Unused Apps under RECOMMENDATIONS to allow iOS to automate this process for you (which will offload any apps you haven't used in 30+ days)
- Manually scroll through the list of apps installed on your phone, tap the ones you want to offload, and tap Offload App (the apps listed here are in order from largest to smallest)
- The app icons for any apps offloaded in this way will remain exactly where they were, and offloaded apps will be reinstalled the next time you tap to open them, like nothing happened
DISABLE VIDEO BACKUP
Because videos can require additional space on your iPhone during backup, disabling video backup is one potential solution:
- Insert your Picture Keeper Connect into your phone
- Open the Picture Keeper Connect app
- From the Home screen, tap Show Backup Options
- Tap the switch next to Videos to disable it
- Now you can return to the Home screen and tap Resume Backup
CLEAR RECENTLY DELETED
Another step you can take is to clear the Recently Deleted items from the Photos app on your iPhone, which would normally take a full 30 days to clear automatically after they are deleted:
- Open the Photos app
- Tap Albums at the bottom
- Scroll to the bottom and tap Recently Deleted
- Tap Select at the top right
- Tap the button with three dots at the bottom right
- Tap Delete All
OPTIMIZE IPHONE STORAGE
If you use iCloud and have enough available storage there, one built in method for freeing up storage on your iPhone is to optimize your storage:
- Open the Settings app
- Tap your name at the top
- Tap iCloud
- Tap Photos
- Ensure Optimize iPhone Storage is checked, and not Download and Keep Originals
