The steps you'll take to complete a backup from a mobile device to the Ultimate Backup SSD may vary, depending on the type of phone or tablet you're backing up. Don't worry! The app will guide you through all of this step-by-step, and will automatically determine which process you'll utilize for the phone or tablet you're using.
There are two modes in which the Ultimate Backup app may be set to, and this mode will determine which steps you'll take in order to complete a backup:
- Direct Connection Mode
- Manual Backup Mode
DIRECT CONNECTION MODE:
Ultimate Backup SSD can connect directly to USB-C devices (e.g. most newer Android devices, most newer iPads, and iPhones 15 and newer), simplifying and expediting the backup process. To help clarify, below are the different types of connectors you may encounter, with USB-C being the only type that can work directly with the Ultimate Backup SSD:
Things to keep in mind:
- USB-C model iOS and Android devices will use Direct Connection Mode by default
- In some rare cases (e.g. the Ultimate Backup SSD is not detected by your phone or tablet while connected), this may need to be switched to Manual Backup Mode, which you can find and enable from Settings > Advanced Options
MANUAL BACKUP MODE:
Ultimate Backup SSD does not connect directly to some older generation devices (such as iPhones or iPads that connect via Lightning, or Android devices that connect via Micro USB). Instead, these devices require the use a Mac or Windows computer to complete the process.
Things to keep in mind:
- Lightning model iOS devices will use Manual Backup Mode
- Micro USB model Android devices will use Manual Backup Mode
- The use of a computer is required for these devices, and you will not need to connect the Ultimate Backup SSD to any other device throughout the backup process
- Make sure to sign in with the same account in both the mobile and computer apps
